Theories of Memory : A Review on Recent Psychological Research


Abstract
Theoretical issues in the recent psychological studies on human memory are reviewed in the following order. First, the changes in the views on memory over the past century are examined. Then, the characteristics of human memory structures and
processes
are described, with emphases on the encoding and retrieval processes. Next, the recent attempts to classify the memory systems are discribed, and major five memory systems and their characteristics are discussed. As the main issues of recent
memory
research, the following topics are chosen and discussed: Working Memory, mathematical models of memory(retrieval), Connectionist models of memory, Impicit Memory, memory in real life, emotion and memory, representaion models in memory. Following
the
discussions of these topics, the possible future directions that memory research and memory theories should or might take are discussed.
